Dead? or Alive!
(Giving or Receiving)

He who receives but does not give is as stagnant and unattractive as the Dead Sea.

All the fresh waters of the Jordan River cannot enliven and refresh its dead salt depths, for it self-devotedly receives and never gives.  It hoards and never shares.  Its own self-absorption has consigned it to death—the Dead Sea.

Comparatively, all the streams of God’s bounty cannot animate and invigorate a heart that has no outlet, one that ever receives, but never overflows and gives.  Like the Dead Sea, such a self-centered existence is only a Dead Life.

—Leroy Brownlow

Ó Ó Ó

That man may last, but never lives,

Who much receives, but nothing gives;

Whom none can love, whom none can thank,—

Creation's blot, creation’s blank

—Thomas Gibbons
